"This is more of a fun thing," he said.

"It's not like it was years ago," said Robin Stevens of Melbourne. Her daughter, Danielle, will be attending the Eau Gallie High prom this evening with friends.

"These kids don't say, 'I'm not going because I don't have a date.' "
